The NYC grocery field guide
Pints, tubs or bars.
Match what you take home.
An ice cream promotion can cover several container sizes and frozen treats. Before choosing a NYC store, compare the same kind of product and the labeled amount inside each pack.
Compare grocery pricesFree comparison starts with grocery staples.
Build your shopping list on the map, then compare.
Choose the format
before the deal.
- For scooping
- Your chosen ice cream and labeled container volume
- For individual treats
- Bars or sandwiches, with count and piece size
- Flavor
- A favorite or a list of acceptable alternatives
- Storage
- Enough freezer space for the required purchase
A tub and a box of bars are separate choices.Either can fit your plans, but package price alone cannot compare them fairly.
Read the product name, container amount and qualifying flavors.
Decide what belongs in the comparison.
Start with ice cream, gelato, sorbet, a dairy-free option or another frozen dessert. Read the package's product name. Keep any ingredient or label requirement fixed when choosing alternatives.
You can swap a tub for individual treats. Write down the quantity you would buy as a separate budget decision. Sharing a promotion does not make the packages equivalent.
Compare tubs using a common volume.
Copy the labeled volume from each container. Do not assume a familiar-looking tub contains a pint or a half gallon. Convert the amounts to one consistent volume unit before working out a unit price, and keep the original label visible so you can check the calculation.
| Format | Record | Compare with |
|---|---|---|
| Single tub | Product name and labeled volume | Matching tubs by the same volume unit |
| Tub multipack | Container count and combined volume | The full required purchase |
| Ice cream bars | Piece count and labeled piece amount | Comparable bars with matching size |
| Sandwiches or cones | Count and product details | The individual treats you actually want |
Weight ounces and fluid ounces describe different measurements. Do not divide a volume-priced tub against a weight-only package and present the result as a like-for-like unit price. Keep the two offers separate when you cannot establish a common basis.
Check which flavors earn the offer.
An ad can show a broad brand while qualifying only selected products. Look for size ranges, excluded flavors, coupon requirements and purchase limits. If you need several containers, include the total amount you must pay to qualify.
- SelectionDoes your preferred flavor qualify?
- SizeIs the exact container or multipack included?
- RequirementDo you need a card, clipped coupon or multiple items?
- CapacityWill the whole required purchase fit in your freezer?
Think about where the frozen purchase fits in your grocery trip. A distant offer may add travel and handling that does not suit your plans. Consider the rest of your list and your journey before adding another stop.
Keep missing prices and sizes visible.
If a circular leaves out container volume, you do not yet have a unit-price comparison. If your flavor has no usable advertised offer, its shelf price remains unknown. Check the underlying promotion or contact the store rather than borrowing a price from another size or variety.
A listing is also not a stock promise. Confirm the product when it matters to your plans, especially before making a special journey for a particular flavor.

Can I compare bars by the number in the box?
